Pediatric Mental Health Care

Helping young people feel heard, supported & understood.

Growing up comes with emotional, social, and developmental changes—and sometimes it can be difficult to know when your child may need additional support. Above & Beyond provides compassionate mental health care for children and adolescents, helping families better understand what they’re seeing and determine thoughtful next steps together.

Pediatric Mental Health Care for Children in Seymour, TN

Maybe your child seems more worried than usual, has become withdrawn or irritable, is struggling to focus at school, or simply doesn’t seem like themselves. Sometimes the change is obvious. Other times, it’s a collection of small things that leaves you wondering whether something more may be going on.

Not every difficult season means there is a mental health condition. But when changes persist or begin affecting school, relationships, family life, or your child’s overall well-being, talking with a mental health provider can provide valuable perspective.

At Above & Beyond, you don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what’s wrong. We’ll start by listening.

Thoughtful Evaluations & Treatment Plans

Children and adolescents don’t always experience—or communicate—mental health concerns the same way adults do. What looks like a behavioral issue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, or withdrawal may have a more complicated story behind it.

Our approach considers what your child is experiencing alongside their health history, development, home and school environment, symptoms, and individual needs.

We also recognize the important role parents and caregivers play. Our goal is to create an environment where families can share their concerns while helping young patients feel respected, comfortable, and included in their care.

Signs Your Child May Benefit From Support

Changes in Mood

Persistent sadness, irritability, frequent emotional changes, or reactions that seem different from your child’s usual behavior may be worth discussing.

Worry & Anxiety

Excessive worry, fears, physical complaints, difficulty separating, or avoiding certain situations can sometimes signal that anxiety is becoming difficult to manage.

Attention & Focus

Difficulty concentrating, staying organized, completing schoolwork, remembering responsibilities, or managing impulses may begin affecting learning and everyday life.

Changes at School

A noticeable change in grades, attendance, behavior, motivation, or relationships with classmates can sometimes reflect challenges beyond academics.

Sleep & Daily Routines

Significant changes in sleep, energy, motivation, or established routines can provide important clues about how a young person is feeling.

Withdrawal & Relationships

Pulling away from family, friends, activities, or interests they previously enjoyed may be a reason to check in and better understand what’s going on.

A Personalized Approach to Pediatric Mental Health

Depression treatment should reflect the person experiencing it—not just the diagnosis. Above & Beyond provides psychiatric evaluation, psychoeducation, medication management, and brief therapeutic modalities as part of individualized mental health care.

Evaluation & Personalized Treatment

The first priority is understanding what your child is experiencing. A thoughtful evaluation gives your provider an opportunity to consider symptoms, history, development, and concerns before discussing a treatment plan with your family.

Medication Management When Appropriate

Medication may be considered for some children and adolescents depending on their individual needs and diagnosis. When it is appropriate, your provider will discuss the treatment, answer questions, and provide ongoing follow-up to monitor how your child is responding.

Common Questions About Pediatric Mental Health Care:

How do I know if my child should see a mental health provider?

Changes in mood, behavior, attention, sleep, relationships, school performance, or everyday functioning can all be reasons to check in. You don’t need to know whether your child has a specific condition before scheduling an evaluation.

What age does my child need to be to receive care?

Above & Beyond treats patients up to 16 years old for mental health-related care.

What happens during a pediatric mental health evaluation?

Your provider will work to understand your concerns, your child’s symptoms and history, and how those challenges are affecting everyday life. The specific evaluation process can vary depending on the child’s age, concerns, and individual circumstances.

Will I be involved in my child’s care?

Parents and caregivers can be an important part of pediatric mental health care. How information is shared and how family members participate can depend on the patient’s age, individual circumstances, and applicable privacy requirements.

Will my child have an opportunity to talk with the provider privately?

Depending on your child’s age and circumstances, there may be times when speaking privately with the provider is appropriate. Your provider can explain how appointments are structured and how privacy is handled while keeping families appropriately involved.

Does pediatric mental health treatment always involve medication?

No. Treatment is individualized. Medication may be appropriate for some patients, but recommendations depend on the evaluation, the concerns being treated, and the individual needs of the child or adolescent.

Can you help with anxiety or depression in children and adolescents?

Above & Beyond provides mental health care for concerns including anxiety and depression. An evaluation can help determine what your child is experiencing and what type of treatment or support may be appropriate.

Do you evaluate children for ADHD?

Above & Beyond offers both in-person and virtual mental health appointments. Your provider can help determine what type of care is appropriate based on your individual needs.
