What Does VISIA Analyze?
Spots
Identifies visible areas of discoloration that differ in color and contrast from the surrounding skin.
Wrinkles
Texture
Analyzes variations in the skin’s surface that can affect how smooth and even your complexion appears.
Pores
Identifies visible pores and helps evaluate their appearance across the analyzed areas.
UV Spots
Specialized UV imaging can reveal accumulated melanin beneath the skin’s surface associated with sun damage—including areas you may not readily see in the mirror.
Brown Spots
Visualizes pigmentation on and beneath the skin, including concerns such as hyperpigmentation and other melanin-related discoloration.
Red Areas
Highlights concentrated areas of redness that can be associated with concerns such as inflammation, visible vessels, acne, or rosacea.
Porphyrins
VISIA can detect porphyrins within pores, which are associated with bacterial activity and can provide additional insight when evaluating congested or acne-prone skin.

What is a VISIA Skin Analysis?
VISIA is a facial imaging and complexion analysis system developed by Canfield Scientific. It uses standardized photography, specialized lighting, and image analysis to evaluate several visible and subsurface characteristics of the skin.
What can VISIA see that I can't see in the mirror?
Specialized imaging can provide additional information about features beneath or less obvious at the skin’s surface. UV imaging, for example, can reveal UV spots associated with accumulated melanin from sun damage that may not be visible under normal lighting.
Does VISIA diagnose skin conditions?
VISIA is an imaging and analysis tool, not a substitute for medical diagnosis. We use the information it provides alongside professional evaluation to better understand your complexion and inform appropriate skincare and aesthetic recommendations.
Do I need to know which treatment I want before my analysis?
Not at all. In fact, VISIA can be especially helpful when you don’t know where to start. Come in with your concerns and goals, and we’ll use your analysis as one piece of the process for determining which options make sense.
Can VISIA help me choose skincare products?
It can help your provider better understand which concerns deserve attention, which can inform more targeted product recommendations. VISIA itself doesn’t replace the provider’s judgment or determine your skincare routine.
Can VISIA track my results over time?
Yes. VISIA is designed to capture standardized images that can be compared across different time points, allowing providers and patients to more objectively visualize changes as a treatment or skincare plan progresses.
Is VISIA only useful if I have problem skin?
No. Understanding your baseline can also be valuable when your skin is in good shape. Your plan may be less about correcting a particular concern and more about protecting and maintaining the skin you have.
